Speakers and Panelists
Thomas W. Crawford, Jr. is Director of the Resource Development Division of the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC). Before joining IFDC, Dr. Crawford helped manage the International Sorghum/Millet Collaborative Research Support Program at the University of Nebraska. He has contributed to international development for more than twenty years as a scientist, diplomat, and research manager in the Caribbean, Central America, and Africa.
Dr. Crawford has worked and resided in Cape Verde, Cameroon, the Dominican Republic, and Zaire (Democratic Republic of Congo). He continues to travel on overseas assignments. In the private sector, Dr. Crawford managed commercial mushroom production, did agricultural and horticultural research, and managed projects employing geographic information systems and remote sensing. He has conducted research on soils and plant nutrition in several universities, is a computer hobbyist, and speaks French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish,. He studied at two universities in Italy and holds an A.B. in Religion with Distinction in General Scholarship, an M.S. in Ecology, and a Ph.D. in Soil Science, each from the University of California.
