Alan R. Hurdus
U.S. Agency for International Development

Alan Hurdus has been the USAID Water Team Leader since returning to Washington in the summer of 1999. He started his career as a Foreign Service Officer in 1980, with assignments in Indonesia (5 years), Bangladesh (4 years), Washington (5 years), Morocco (5 years), and now again in Washington for the past four years. His technical background is in agronomy and soil science, but he has been working on water issues since his assignment in Bangladesh during the massive river floods of 1988. In Morocco, he helped fashion the Mission's water program, focused on integrated water resources management in one of the country's most important river basins. Before joining USAID, Mr. Hurdus worked at the University of Hawaii for several years, and also served in the Peace Corps in India in the mid-late sixties. Alan has a BA in Political Science, a BS in Agronomy, and an MS in Agronomy and Soils; he speaks some French, Bahasa Indonesia and Marathi.
