Annual Meeting 2005
The 41st Annual Meeting of
The Association for International Agriculture
and Rural Development
June 5-7, 2005
"Transforming International Development:
The Theory and Practice of Addressing Global Poverty and Hunger"
Invitation
The American people and the government of the United States have been involved in development assistance since the early in the 20th century. These efforts reflect the humanitarian and geo-political concerns of the United States and its world neighbors. Rural development assistance has often been directed to strengthening basic capabilities of agrarian, rural populations challenged by complex problems such as deficient infrastructure, poor nutrition, disease and lack of access to technology and markets.
History demonstrates that change is ever-present. The theory and practice of international development continue to evolve. The global sweep of change has impact on the many institutions that are dedicated to improve the welfare and future of the world's poor.
The program of our annual meeting will include knowledgeable speakers who will share insights and perspectives from their experiences in international agriculture and rural development. By attending the 41st AIARD annual meeting, you will have the opportunity to interact with development professionals who will speak about:
The history of development assistance and the evolving roles and functions of participating institutions.
The impact of contemporary scholarship on international agriculture and rural development.
New millennium issues such as biotechnology, the role of women, technology transfer, fragile and hostile geo-political environments, and naturally occurring disasters.
The Association for International Agriculture and Rural Development invites members, guests, speakers and panelists to participate in our 41st AIARD annual meeting scheduled for June 5-7 at the Holiday Inn, Capitol, 550 C Street SW , Washington DC. This event will provide an excellent opportunity for all participants to interact with policy makers, academicians and leaders of the private and public sectors who are actively addressing global poverty and hunger. Please join us!
Thomas W. Crawford, Jr.
President, 2004 - 2005
