Francisco J. B. Reifschneider Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR)
Dr. Reifschneider, a Brazilian national, is Director of the CGIAR, a strategic alliance of countries, international and regional organizations, and private foundations supporting 16 international agricultural research Centers that work with national agricultural research systems, the private sector and civil society. The alliance mobilizes agricultural science to reduce poverty, foster human well-being, promote agricultural growth, and protect the environment. Before joining the CGIAR, he was Head of International Cooperation of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA). Dr. Reifschneider, a widely published author, received the Frederico de M. Veiga Prize, Brazil's highest award for major contributions to agricultural development and the Jabuti Prize for a book on Capsicum (peppers). Dr. Reifschneider earned a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from the University of Wisconsin; his first degree was in agronomy from the University of Brasilia.
