Dr. Swaminathan's focus is on women's property and inheritance rights, HIV/AIDS and domestic violence. Previous to working at ICRW, Dr. Swaminathan was a post-doctoral researcher at the Northeast Regional Center for Rural Development, Pennsylvania State University where she was working on structural determinants of poverty in rural America and impact of welfare reform in the US on poor populations. Her main interests are in the areas of intra-household resource allocation, property rights, food security, poverty alleviation and impact of HIV/AIDS. Dr. Swaminathan has work and field experience in India, Nepal, Malawi and the US. She holds a MSc. in Economics from the University of Bristol, UK (1996) and her Ph.D. degree in Agricultural Economics from the Pennsylvania State University (2003).
