Nancy Valentine, Ed.D., is a National Program Leader for 4-H Youth Development at the National 4-H Headquarters, Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service (CSREES), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Since joining USDA in 1990 she has provided national leadership in program areas such as: the $10M Children, Youth, and Families at Risk grant program, After-School Programs, authorization for the use of the 4-H Name and Emblem, National 4-H Curriculum, and the $3M Rural Youth Development grant program.

Prior to coming to USDA, Nancy was a tenured associate professor at West Virginia University. She was a County 4-H Youth Development Educator with responsibilities for developing and maintaining 4-H Clubs and other community based programs, an Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), a volunteer system, a 4-H camp facility, a non-profit 4-H Foundation, and after-school programs throughout the county. On a state level, she managed the State 4-H Horse Show at the West Virginia State Fair for about 20 years.



Nancy has an undergraduate degree in music education (K-12) and a permanent teaching certificate. Her master's degree was in Guidance and Counseling Psychology and her doctorate is in Higher Education Administration. Both graduate degrees are from West Virginia University. She also taught vocal music in a senior high school for 6 years.

On special assignment from USDA, Nancy has traveled to Zimbabwe, Uganda and Morocco. In addition she has traveled to Russia, Great Britain, Belgium, Holland, Austria, and France. She showed Quarter Horses for several years, and loves to go to theater and music events. In her spare time she assists her husband with renovating houses. She resides in Silver Spring with her husband and two cats.
