In December 2003, Mr. Ward was appointed as the Deputy Assistant Administrator, Bureau for Asia and the Near East. Since 1986 Mr. Ward has assumed a variety of leadership roles within USAID. He has served as Mission Director in Pakistan and Deputy Director in Russia and Director, Office of Procurement, Bureau for Management. During his career at USAID, he has also served as a Legal Advisor in Russia, Philippines, Pakistan and Afghanistan. During his career, Mr. Ward has received numerous distinguished recognitions including the Senior Foreign Service Presidential Meritorious Service Rank Award, and the Superior Honor Award.

In 1982, Mr. Ward received his JD from the University of California, Berkley and practiced law in the private sector.
